Organize important documents
Your executor will need to easily access important documents such as life insurance policies, funeral plans, etc. Be sure all these documents are organized and kept up to date in a filing system. Once you determine where these files will be located, communicate the location with the executor you chose. It will be useful to be able to find important documents easily.
Some important documents can’t be kept in a file, though. Your executor might need to know where you keep your driver’s license, social security card, and passport. Besides containing valuable identification information, these documents might be needed to get a death certificate. For example, an executor often has to provide a social security number for the decedent to obtain the death certificate.
