Task 4 of 22

Ask mortician for assistance in getting death certificate

Part of: Plan and Manage the Funeral

In most situations, your mortician will assist you in getting a death certificate. Feel free to make this request of the funeral home director or a member of their staff. If they are willing to help with this request, get 10 certified copies of the death certificate. You’ll need them for banks, life insurance companies, etc. so it will be most efficient to get enough of them now to allow you to make progress in the executor role.

There will be a minor cost for each copy, which will vary depending on your location. If the deceased is a veteran, in some cases death certificates might be available for free, so be sure to inquire.
