Continue to pay for any home-related expenses
If the decedent owned a home, bills will continue to arrive for essential services like gas, water, and electricity. It is the responsibility of an executor to ensure these bills are paid as long as the home or apartment is owned or rented by the estate. If there is a legitimate concern that there is not enough money in the estate to pay such bills, it is important to consult with the estate’s attorney about how to proceed. Also, you must follow any court-mandated rules regarding bill payment.
Below is a spreadsheet you can use to track all home-related expenses. You can also access the spreadsheet from the My Data Vault tab on the upper left portion of all pages on the site.
