Talk to the estate’s attorney to understand your roles

Because you will have worked with the estate’s attorney to file the will with probate, this is a good time to talk with him or her about the different roles you will have during the process. An estate attorney may handle everything from liquidating the assets of the estate to managing the estate’s expenses and bank account.

Look over the steps here on executor.org and talk with the estate’s attorney to determine what he or she will do and what your executor responsibilities will be. Of course, for the non-legal aspects of your role as executor, you can get as much or as little help as you want from the estate’s attorney.
