Task 15 of 15

Notify Unemployment Benefits Office

Part of: Notify Relevant Organizations of the Death

If the deceased was receiving unemployment benefits, you need to report the death to the unemployment benefits office. It is typical now for unemployment benefits to be distributed via a debit card. You might need to ask whether any remaining funds on the card will be revoked or if the remaining funds, since distributed, are part of the estate and a beneficiary could receive them. You also should inquire if the debit card can be disposed of or if it needs to be returned to them.
