Get final disposition from the court

Once all distributions are made, the estate is not closed until you receive the final order from the court. The probate judge might ask you for paperwork and you will likely have to file a petition with the court, so it is important to involve the estate’s attorney in this process.

When you get the final disposition from the court, be sure to keep the actual disposition order filed safely away. Consult with the estate’s attorney and accountant as to what paperwork you need to keep from the estate and how long you need to keep it.
